Fidel Castro was a man who lives into his 90’s, and the best characterization of him for many would be that he was akin to a piece of human excrement that one can’t quite entirely flush down the toilet. But don’t tell that to the out-of-touch liberals over at ABC news.
“Fidel Castro was considered, even to this day, the George Washington of his country to those who remain in Cuba,” Jim Avila of ABC News said per Breitbart. Of course, Avila didn’t stop there.
He also described Fidel Castro as the “conscience of Cuba.” Somehow, I’m not sure that the thousands of people who were attempting to exercise freedom of speech and were either executed or sent to re-education camps, would agree with that.
History also shows that another group of people were bereft of the human rights we all call dear. They made a desperate attempts to flee the country, so apparently Fidel Castro wasn’t George Washington to them either.
Consider with me a flimsy raft that is in the grips of the ocean, desperately attempting to make the 90-minute journey from Cuba to our grand American state of Florida. The individuals on this raft are both old and young, both male and female. Their eyes are tired, but there is a glimmer of hope in them.
They have been on the water for many long days and nights. Suddenly, a major vessel approaches with the rush of water and waves coming with it. As the larger, more-pronounced boat approaches, the insignia of the United States is not difficult to notice.
As those in the large vessel approach the raft, those on board wait in a suspended silence. The official on the large boat addresses them in Cuban Spanish: “Bienvenido a los Estados Unidos!” (Welcome to the United States!)
Naturally, the people on the life raft will erupt in cheers, and they will be grateful to God that he provided them with at least somewhat safe travel to their new home.
Do you think these refugees in this example would have been willing to compare Fidel Castro to George Washington? Do you think they would suffer on the open seas and brave death and malnutrition if they thought this dictator was on par with the Father of Our Country?
You and I both know the answer to that question is no. The spin from this “journalist” is so bad it’s vomit-inducing.
How a journalist could ever compare one of the most notorious dictators of our time to a man that was personally involved in creating the freedom we enjoy here today is beyond me.
