There’s nothing worse than when the establishment selfishly diverts money away from a good cause and towards their own pockets.
It turns out that the Congressional Black Congress PAC spends thousands of dollars on high-end resorts and hotels, going to nice restaurants, and Broadway shows. They spend more on administrative and fundraising purposes than they donate to the candidates they supposedly represent. (via Washington Free Beacon)
The Congressional Black Caucus PAC (CBC PAC) claims that its mission is to increase “the number of African Americans in the U.S. Congress” but in reality, their goal seems to be live as lavishly as possible and ignore the suffering black communities who need better representation and new solutions.
They claim to “support non-Black candidates that champion our interests, and promote African American participation in the political process-with an emphasis on young voters,” but it’s all a sham.
At the beginning of 2016, the PAC paid $5,000 to a hotel in St. Croix, on the Virgin Islands, called the Buccaneer Hotel. This is one of the “world’s top 50 tropical resorts.”
Later in that same year, the CBC went to another resort in the Virginia Islands, where they stayed at the unique Renaissance St. Croix Carambola Beach Resort and Spa.
The resort is built into the foothills of a rain-forest, and is a short distance away from the Estate Davis Bay. You can’t tell me you couldn’t find a cheaper place to stay. In fact, why go on a PAC-funded vacation at all?
While in the Virgin Islands, the CBC continued to spend lavishly. Yet, they incurred their largest bills at home in New York and Washington. At the Conrad Hotel in New York City, they spent $40,000, in this last election cycle alone. In D.C., at the St. Regis Hotel, they spent $18,000.
Rather than spending all this money on themselves, why don’t they put this money to good use? It’s not there so they can act like they’re on an eternal spring break. This money is supposed to be furthering black communities’ needs and priorities.
Altogether, the CBC PAC spent around $283,100 on administrative costs, $127,000 for fundraising, and only gave around $91,000 to the federal candidates who were running for offices. To me, its like they stole from the people they pretend to support.
These politicians claim they are not getting a fair shake, but they seem to be the ones causing the most damage to their own cause.
